William J. Gradishar, MD, is Professor of Breast Oncology at Betsy Bramsen, Professor of Medicine, and Chief of the Hematology and Medical Oncology Division at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Gradishar is also the Deputy Director for the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Clinical Network, where he also acts as Director of the Maggie Daley Center for Women’s Cancer Treatment. In addition, he has served since its establishment as Chair of the Annual Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Cancer Symposium.

Dr. Gradishar received his medical degree from the Abraham School of Medicine of the University of Illinois. Later, at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, he completed an internship and chief residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Chicago. In internal medicine and medical oncology, he is board-certified.

Specializing in breast cancer therapy, Dr. Gradishar focuses on new endocrine therapy, chemotherapy and biological agents. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Clinical Oncology Society of America (ASCO). He is also a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the Association of Subspecialty Professors, and the American Federation for Clinical Research. In addition, Dr. Gradishar serves as an adviser to the Oncology Drug Advisory Committee of the FDA.

Dr. Gradishar has previously chaired many ASCO committees, including the Nominating Committee, the Committee on Professional Growth, the Committee on the Oncology Training Program and the Committee on Communications. He has also previously worked on the American College of Surgeons Cancer Committee, as well as various research sections, including NIH, NCI, ACS, Komen, and the Alberta Cancer Board.

In addition to his professional membership, Dr. Gradishar is a member of the editorial board of several journals, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Journal of Clinical Oncology, Oncology, Clinical Breast Cancer, Journal Watch, European Journal of Clinical and Medical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and JNCCN.

Dr. Gradishar is the Chair of the Panel on NCCN Breast Cancer and a member of the Risk Reduction Panel on NCCN Breast Cancer. He has also worked on many NCCN Oncology Research Program committees.
