Nelson Leung, MD from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN gives an overview of the common kidney problems in multiple myeloma (MM). The proteins produced by the myeloma cells are toxic to the kidney in various ways. Prof Leung disccuses light chain cast nephropathy (LCCN), which is the most common complication and is a myeloma defining event, as well as immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis, monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease (MIDD) and light chain proximal tubulopathy (LCPT) with or without Fanconi syndrome.
