Recent subtypes of ALL: Ph-like ALL and ETP ALL

Recent insights from the genomic analysis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were presented at the 1st International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL), held in St. Pete Beach, FL. Filmed at the meeting, the speakers from the session come together to discuss the data presented. Charles Mullighan, MD, MBBS, and Kathryn Roberts, PhD, both from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN, are joined by Anjali Advani, MD, of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, for this insightful discussion. The experts first discuss a new subtype of ALL; Ph-like ALL, which although similar to classical BCR-ABL positive cases, is molecularly distinct, which opens the door to the use of targeted therapeutic approaches for this subset. Next, the conversation turns to early T-cell precursor (ETP) ALL, with expert insight into the genomics of this subtype, and early perspectives into treatment strategies and the utility of minimal residual disease (MRD) measurements for stratification.
