Normal and neoplastic stem cells: from discovery to treatments

Our understanding of stem cells has improved exponentially since their discovery, transforming our treatment of hematological malignancies and other diseases. Here, Irving Weissman, MD, of the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA, discusses the use of stem cell transplantation and gives his perspective on their usage thus far.
