Robert Kreitman, MD, from the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, discusses a clinical trial using the recombinant immunotoxin, moxetumomab pasudotox, in patients with relapsed/refractory hairy cell leukemia who had undergone at least two prior therapies (NCT01829711). In the trial, 12 out of 80 patients achieved complete remission and were considered measurable residual disease (MRD)-negative after being treated with less than 6 cycles of the immunotoxin, and these patients had a longer complete remission duration than their MRD-positive counterparts.
