Immunotherapy has huge potential for treating a wide variety of cancer types. In this video, recorded at the UK Oncology Forum (OF) 2018, held in Liverpool, UK, Peter Johnson, MA, MD, FRCP, of the University of Southampton, Southampton, UK, discusses the newly opened Centre for Cancer Immunology in Southamphton, and the ground-breaking research being conducted there. Specifically, Prof. Johnson discusses the complexity of immune responses to cancer, and his ex vivo research that examines tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes from patients undergoing immunotherapy treatments in order to comprehend this complexity. He also discusses the direction he believes this research will take in the future, highlighting the role of combining immunotherapy approaches either sequentially or simultaneously to tailor responses to treatment.
