Treatments for low-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) cannot cure the disease, but rather aim to improve quality of life, reduce complications and increase overall survival by reducing cytopenia. Therapies include: epoetin alfa for stimulating erythropoiesis; lenalidomide for modulating the immune system; luspatercept for correcting ring sideroblasts; and eltrombopag for treating severe thrombocytopenia.
