Following the unfortunate IT failures at the Barts Health NHS Trust in 2017, which led to major issues in their electronic prescribing system, it became clear that it was necessary to review processes and devise a new, effective business continuity plan. Christopher Watson, MPharm, from St Bartholomews Hospital, London, UK, presents his experience in the development and rolling out of a new electronic prescribing system, highlighting key changes in practises which should help avoid future issues. Mr Watson hopes that through sharing his trust’s experiences, other centres can learn and will be encouraged to review their current prescribing systems.
